The Kuwaiti government has employed many innovative development techniques to enhance the adoption of renewable energy in response to future electricity demand challenges. Consequently, the government has initiated the 2040 Kuwait Master Plan aimed at fostering urban, economic, social, and environmental advancement. An essential element of this Master Plan is the allocation of specific areas for the incorporation of renewable energy, aimed at boosting the share of energy sourced from renewable projects in the anticipated power consumption of the nation by 2040 and beyond. Kuwait has a very small geographical size compared to its surrounding countries.

A recent published research by experts from KISR indicates that, even with full utilization of all areas designated in the Master Plan for renewable energy sources by 2060, the country can only meet 41% of its annual energy consumption from renewables. In conclusion, national-level planning should prioritize the energy production potential of a project while taking land use into account, rather than its capacity. This is due to the necessity of fulfilling future energy consumption targets.
