As part of the State of Kuwait government’s target to attain 15% renewable energy generation by 2030, the Shagaya Renewable Energy Park was established in western Kuwait. Shagaya is located approximately 100 km west of Kuwait City (Figure 1). The park is under construction in several phases and will ultimately comprise over 4 GW of total capacity from wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), and concentrated solar power (CSP) systems.

Phase 1 of Shagaya has been completed, featuring a 10-MW wind plant and a 10-MW solar photovoltaic plant, both commissioned in 2017. A 50-MW parabolic trough CSP plant was commissioned in 2018. The official Grand Opening for the Shagaya Renewable Energy Park was held in February 2019.
